Wake me up with morning rain. As I walk these streets that all look the same.
Dry my skin on the days first train. Same bystanders, different names.
Wishing hard for something good. Curse my luck. Knock on wood.
This city speaks, I hear her song. She tells me that I don't belong.
Sharing life with hypocrites. They have me fooled, they're hypnotists
And so it is how I expected. living life so unconnected.
There's no gold behind those rainbows.
Just a thick wall made of stone.
And all the angels have broken halos...
Cold like the demons that I take home.
I've traded love so easily. I get it back unevenly.
We live through lies, a learned addiction. We create our fate, we write our fiction.
Shakespeare said the worlds a stage. We play our roles inside a cage.
Innocence is lost so suddenly. No elegance, no subtlety.
Flesh and bone soon turns to steel. We're all robots, who fail to feel.
And so it is, just like she said.
Lose your heart or keep your head.
There's no gold behind those rainbows.
Just a thick wall made of stone.
And all the angels have broken halos...
Cold like the demons that I take home.
Talk is costly, just like trust. Only words to turn to dust.
Never confess, the truth is weak. I'll seal my lips and never speak.
Lost souls amble through the night. Out of mind, not out of sight.
No chance to stop, we can't relent. Running man in thick cement.
Hunting those that are so confused. Easy prey to leave abused.
And so it is, the same sad song.
We make mistakes, we get it wrong.
There's no gold behind those rainbows.
Just a thick wall made of stone.
And all the angels have broken halos...
Cold like the demons that I take home.
