Mama tell me what the future brings.
I need to know now, before the fat lady sings.
All my friends are in a hurry. They're all leaving town. But someone took the batteries out of my clock, and my time's slowing down.
You say. Boy it's time to lay some roots, go ahead and spread some seeds.
But I've planted everything I have. For a garden full of weeds.
You say. Find yourself a nice girl, you better treat her good and don't you stray. But she's long gone and I'd rather go blind than have to watch her walk away.
I'll go and search for riches. I'll drag them home in a big ol' sack. And I swear to whoever's listening, I'll be paid when I come back.
You say. Go to school and get an education. But they don't teach you anything real. It's all a simulation.
Remember your morals boy, before you fall to damnation. But that ships sailed, the train's already left the station.
I hate being restless. What happened to adventures? I don't want to grow old, go bald, or get dentures.
I refuse to lose my fire. I'm burning in the wind. But mama I'm scared...
Of what the future will bring.
