I recently wrote about some of the negative effects of Facebook, particularly what I call ''Personas''. So you can imagine my amusement when I read about NamoroFake this morning.
NamaroFake, in short is a website where you can pay for the services of a lady. For a set price you can buy ''a genuine girlfriend experience'', sounds seedy right? Well here's the punch line, as the website's name suggests, what you are paying for is a fake girlfriend, ex girlfriend, or (as they call it) a signifier.
The site works by creating a Facebook profile using whom they claim to be real women.
For a set price you can buy a virtual girlfriend who will leave a set number of comments on your profile.
I wondered why the hell you would want such a thing...So I took a look at some of the testimonials.
(Google has translated these from Portuguese, so excuse any inaccuracies)
Testimonial One; Legal jealousy: '' I'm not telling personal things, but here I do not need to put my name then bumped. My girlfriend fell for and was dying of jealousy of my signifier, but it worked because it came back to me. '' (By ''it'' I assume he means his ex girlfriend)
Testimonial Two; Caused :'' Unbelievable reaction from my friends, was 3 comments that made my face until I was pumping rsrsrsrsrs some college girls adding me, I think that's why. In a few days I will hire another signifier p give another moral''
^ I'm not even going to try and decipher douchebag number two's comment.
So a genuine, fake girlfriend experience for the mere price of $99 for 30 days. If I was the above I’d use the money for some psychotherapy…or to get a life (A real one).
I sincerely hope this website is a joke (But I get the feeling it's not).
