Chapter 3:
1 week to the Olympics! Everyone was so excited and Andy had been working Tom, Jack, Chris, Tonia and Sarah really hard. I’ve made up with Tom and Ailis; I just needed a few days on my own. Most days I would go down to the Plymouth Life Centre with Ailis to watch everyone practise once we had finished school at 3:30.
I have just finished my last ever day at school and I was at the apartment packing before Tom got home from training. I decided that I had to get away from all of this – I just couldn’t do this anymore! I had put my suitcase in the limo that was waiting outside. “Babe, I’m home.” Tom called as the front door closed. I could hear him coming upstairs. “Hey, what’s with the limo outside?” He asked me as he walked into the bedroom but stopped short when he saw me packing. “Maddy, what’s going on?” he asked me.
I sighed, I couldn’t look at him otherwise I was going to cry and I knew I had to be strong. “I can’t do this anymore Tom.” I said, I looked at him and saw there were tears in his eyes. “Maddy, if this is about what happened with Ailis; I thought you were ok with it.” Tom said.
“It’s not about that Tom. It’s just I can’t do this! You’re 20 and about to win a gold medal and I’m 18 and only just finished school.” I said, I could feel the tears coming but I held them in.
“So you’re breaking up with me?” Tom asked.
I looked into his brown eyes and the tears began to fall, “I’m sorry Tom.”
“No please don’t do this Maddy. I love you!” Tom whispered.
I zipped my bag up and walked downstairs. Just as I had stepped outside, Tom caught up with me and kissed me.
“Please stay Maddy, I’m begging you!” He was crying now.
“Goodbye Tom.” I walked to the limo and got in before it sped off leaving Tom standing in the doorway. Then the 3 hours to London began.
