Chapter 5:
Four days after the Opening Ceremony and I had sat in front of the TV most of the day. The day before yesterday Tom had the semi-finals which I didn’t watch because I met up with my godmother who was in London for the day and we went for lunch.
I walked downstairs and saw Micky making hot chocolate. “There is mail for you on the table.” She said nodding her head to the small package that was sitting on the table. It was obviously hand delivered because there was only my name written on the front. I ripped the envelope open and out fell a photo and a ticket. There was a post it note stick to the back of the photo that said: ‘Remember all the good times we used to have! J Ailis x’ I flipped the photo over and saw it was a picture of Me, Tom, Tonia, Chris, Ailis, Jack and Andy. I continued to stare at the photo and I felt myself go blind with tears. I put the photo down and looked at the ticket. I gasped as I read the ticket; Tom had got into the finals! Ailis had sent me a ticket to the men’s diving finals. Actually she has sent me two tickets so I gave one to Micky. I run upstairs and put the ticket in the bottom of my suitcase.
It was now Wednesday and Tom was in the final today. I couldn’t bring myself to go and watch so Micky went. I just sat down and watched the other sports on the TV. I was getting a bit bored so I decided to switch over to the diving and see what was going on, I heard the presenter say:
“The diving has now finished! The medals will be taking place in 15 minutes. Bronze medal goes to Thomas Daley.....”
I zoned out as the presenter droned on about who had won Silver and Gold. Oh My God, I couldn’t believe it! Tom had won Bronze! I was in my own world that I nearly missed the presenter saying that US Diver Kassidy Cook was giving out the medals! Oh no! Kassidy was Tom’s ex and ever since I got with Tom, Kassidy hasn’t been very happy. I suspect she heard about me and Tom and thinks she can get back together with him. My head was whirling and I couldn’t think straight! Tom could easily get back together with Kassidy and I could easily sat back and watch it happen! That’s when I realized that I loved Tom so much and I didn’t want him getting back with Kassidy. Before I knew it, I was at the door with the ticket in my hand. I ran to the tube station and hopped on – the Aquatics Centre was 5 minutes away.
As I was running towards the Aquatics Centre, I thought about what I was going to say and I was starting to have doubts on whether this was a good idea or not. I reached the entrance and showed the security guard my ticket.
“I’m sorry Miss, but you’re not allowed in.” The guard told me.
“Why not?” I asked.
“Only family and coaches are allowed in and out while the diving is going on.”
“But I’m his girlfriend!” I was getting really upset.
“Your Maddy Hopson aren’t you? He said and I nodded. “Last time I checked you had broken up with him.”
“She’s with me!” A voice said.
I turned around and saw Andy walking towards me with a tub of ice cream. I guessed that was for Tom.
The security guard let us past and Andy and I walked to the ready room where Tom was.
“Wait! I’m going to sit with his family. Don’t tell him I’m here.”I said. Andy nodded and told me where to go. I sprinted to where his family and Micky were sitting. They were all shocked to see me and I could tell that only Micky understood why I was here.
The medal ceremony pasted in a blur. Kassidy was trying to flirt with Tom but Tom wasn’t having any of it. He still hadn’t seen me yet because every time he looked over to his family I would duck down or Will and Ben would move in front of me. I was now on my way to the ready room with Tom’s family and Micky. Andy had dragged Tom back to the ready room so I could see him before he got bombarded with the press.
Andy came out and they all waited while I went in and had my alone time with Tom. Kassidy was nowhere in sight, which was good. Tom had his back to me so he didn’t see me walk in.
“I’m sorry!” I said.
Tom turned around and gasped. The next thing I knew, I was his arms and we were both crying. “I love you Tom.” I said.
“I love you too Maddy.” He said and we kissed before everyone came in and we got jumped on by Chris and Jack.
Everyone was happy that me and Tom were back together. Tom had loads of interviews afterwards which I went along to, we also had loads of pictures taken as well. We walked out of the Aquatics Centre and the press gathered around us asking questions like: ‘Are you two back together?’ Or ‘Don’t you like Kassidy, Tom?’ After telling the press that Tom and I were back together we sat in the back of a taxi that was going to take Micky and I back to Micky’s apartment and then the rest back to the Athletes Village.
Andy had given me a key card to get into the village so after getting ready Micky and I went to the village. I decided to surprise Ailis and Tonia, they hadn’t gone to the diving and hopefully nobody had told them that I was here. I knocked on the door.
“Come in!” Tonia shouted. I opened the door.
“MADDY!!” Tonia and Ailis both screamed and jumped on me, hugging me so hard I felt I was going to fall over!
“Hey Micky.” They both said and hugged her.
We all sat down on the bed and it reminded me of the old times we used to have before Micky went away to London!
Ailis and Tonia kept asking me questions, I was thankful when Tom, Jack and Chris showed up. Apparently Ailis and Chris are dating so I asked Chris to shut Ailis up which he did because I was getting a headache from all her questions.
We had a great night out and I could see Micky getting closer to Jack.
Two weeks later and the Olympics were over. After saying good bye to Micky who promised she would visit us in a few weeks, we got on a plane to Plymouth. My mum and dad were at the airport and they took me and Tom back to the family home. It was great to be back home, I had missed Plymouth and I had missed being with Tom. I curled up to Tom on the way home and we went to bed when we got in.
The next morning the newspaper headline read:
‘Maddy Hopson and Tom Daley are back together on home turf!’
There was a picture of Tom and me kissing as we got off the plane and Jack and Chris were holding the United Kingdom flag behind us. Tom had his medal on.
It was really cute; I went back upstairs and looked at Tom sleeping. The Olympics Medallist Diver Thomas Daley was mine. Forever.
