Chapter 4:
3 hours later I arrived at Micky’s flat. Micky and I were good friends in secondary school but we both left at 16 after our GCSE’s and haven’t seen each other in a long time with me in Plymouth and her in London.
After a good catch up, we decided to go out for dinner since it was about 8:30.
“Where shall we go and eat?” I asked as we left her flat and walked to the tube station.
“How about Nandos?” Micky said as we got on the tube.
“Fine by me.” I said.
It only took 15 minutes to get into the centre of London. After having a look around in some of the shops, we walked into Nandos. The good thing about being in London was that I wasn’t being followed by the press – don’t get me wrong, I do like the press but one bad comment and you could be slaughtered by the whole world!
“So what’s going on between you and Tom?” Micky asked, looking at the menu.
“Can we not talk about it?” I said.
“No its fine.” Micky said and we went back to looking at the menus.
After eating at Nandos we went for a walk in London to look at the lights, I found out Micky lived quite close to the London Aquatics Centre and I thought about what everyone would be doing at home.
We walked back to Micky’s apartment and went to bed. I checked my phone to find 2 miss calls from Ailis and 3 from Tom. Once I had texted Ailis and my mum to tell them where I was and that I was fine, I went to sleep.
The next morning when I got into the kitchen, Micky had gone to work and there was a note on the table explaining where everything was. I had just put some bread in the toaster when the newspaper came through the door. I went to go and pick it up and instantly regretted it, the headline on the front page read:
‘Maddy Hopson (18) broke up with famous diver Tom Daley (20) yesterday. Maddy has gone to stay with friends in London and nobody has any idea if she is coming back. Tom is training for the Olympics and Andy Banks – his coach, says that with Maddy gone, Tom isn’t concentrating anymore and Andy is worried that Tom won’t win a medal which was his dream since the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The Olympic Ceremony is at 6pm tonight and Tom will be there along with his fellow divers: Tonia, Chris, Brooke and Jack.
After having breakfast and getting ready, I decided to go and do some shopping in London. Just before I left, I decided to check Twitter, I had loads of mentions and most of them were hate so I just logged off. I stepped out into the warm weather, I loved London! I knew the diving team would be checking the Aquatics Centre out today so I decide to stay well away from it.
By 4pm I had shopped out so I made my way back to Micky’s apartment. Andy had texted me during the day to say where they were staying and that it would be good to see me and that Tom won’t stop whining!
At 6pm we sat down to watch the Opening Ceremony, it was great and the atmosphere was great!
