Chapter 6:

MADDY'S POV

Somehow, I found myself playing truth or dare with Tom Daley in the early hours of day. He literally would not leave me alone. So I gave in and decided I wouldn't be able to sleep anyway.

"Truth or dare." Tom said.

I sighed. "Truth."

"Truth's boring," he whined, "but whatever. We're just warming up. Truth. Do you have a boyfriend?"

"No," I said. "no I don't."

He smiled. "Your turn."

"Truth or dare?"

"Truth."

"You just said truth's boring."

"We're warming up," he reminded me.

"Okay." I thought about it for a moment. "Why did you ask if I have a boyfriend?"

"To know if I might get beaten up if anyone saw us walking together at the park early in the morning."

I laughed. "Dare."

He grabbed my shoulder and turned me facing a playground which was completely deserted. It was totally reasonable, seeing that it was three in the morning. "See that slide over there, the highest one."

"Yup."

"I dare you to slide down there, standing up."

"You want me to go down a slide while standing up?" Well that's a crazy dare. I might lose balance and slip, making me look like a total fool in front of Tom.

Tom nodded, "but you gotta like-- extend your arms, glide your shoes on the slide, and not fall down."

"I probably won't be able to do that last bit." I said, looking worried.

"Don't worry. I'll catch you if you fall." He winked.

I laughed. "Wait here."

I raced over to the slide and climbed the ladder toward the highest point of the slide. When I got the the top, Tom was standing there by the side of the landing. He was looking up at me and held his arms at his sides, waiting to catch me if I fall. It all seemed so cheesy I couldn't hold back a laugh.

"Come on, Maddy." He cheered. "I'm right here."

I placed my right foot on the slide and detected a problem. "The slide is slippery!"

"That's the fun part. You're gonna glide down from there fast, and jump here on the landing." Tom explained.

"What if I go too fast and jump too late?" It was very likely for this dare to be a disaster.

"Then I'll catch you. In case you haven't noticed. I'm very buff." He joked in an attempt to lighten the mood.

I know I was over-acting, but I really didn't want to look stupid in front of this guy. "I don't know."

"Come on, Maddy." he said. "What's gonna make you fall?"

My face hardened. "I'm not gonna fall, Tom."

"Right. Go down that slide, then."

"Fine." I replaced my right foot on the slide again, praying it was not as slippery as it looks. I glided down the slide really fast, but didn't slip.

"There. Can we move on now?" I said, feeling annoyed.

"Woah, you're not mad at me are you?" he asked with a sad face.

It was then that I realized how worked up I got. Something about what he said just seemed... different. I don't know. I immediately put on a smile and said, "Nah, I'm not mad. Truth or dare?"

"Dare." he smirked.

I looked around. A block or so down the street there was a huge fountain. "Feel like going for a swim?"
