So today, when I was at the stables, someone who I didn't know came down the yard and asked to speak to the owner of the livery stables. She wasn't there so the lady asked me for help... Only thing was that she wanted to see if my new, NEW, pony Yogi was for sale! I was like no sorry I have only had him like a month if that! She then left and it got me thinking about why someone would want to buy Yogi.
Just to give you a low down on Yogi Bear. He is a 13"2 Exmoor pony with plenty of attitude! Not good for beginners.... At all! If he doesn't want to do something he will let you know by bucking and rearing until you end up on the floor covered in mud and sand and sometimes water if your on the beach! Very attractive..! Normally you can only get 30 to 40 minutes of good, solid work out of him a day! He eats for England and jumps higher than any pony I have ever seen! You see I didn't know he could jump until one day, when I was training for dressage, he decided to join in with Bex jumping her 16" horse. Bex had set up a few small, 90cm jumps and two 1m10 jumps. She was giving her horse a walk around before she took him down to the beach, and this was when Yogi decided enough was enough! He bolted over a couple of the smaller jumps and then swung round a very tight turn and started Heading towards the bigger jumps. Try as I might, I could not make him stop, and took for the hang on or face a mouth full of sand approach. Yogi cantered towards this jump, full of determination and confidence... And I know I shouldn't have, but I closed my eyes and prayed he would either stop before the jump or get tired and admit defeat. But no, he reached the jump and leaped over this jump like a pro! I was amazed and so was Bex! After I had calmed down we both fell about laughing for no apparent reason... Matt, Bex's brother, was standing at the gate also laughing. He joked about how I needed to work on my jumping seat... I wish I had a photo of that jump! Ever since then, which hasn't been long, me and Yogi work on our jumping at least 2 times a week sometimes more.
And I can't forget Harley! He is a 15"2 Arab x thoroughbred with a very gentle nature. He, unlike Yogi, is perfect for beginners! He is bomb proof and doesn't ever refuse a jump! He looks good doing dressage and loves a bit of of cross country every now and then! His cross country colours are red and green. Iam very proud of my Harley. He is about 6 years old. My mum got him when he was 2! He was completely untouchable! We couldn't even groom him! He was backed and broken but he didn't know or trust us! We slowly worked on the trust issue. And soon enough we could groom him, next came riding him. And sure enough, 2 weeks later we could ride him! He has amazing movement and holds his head just right! He stands out in a crowd as he has a very white patch right on his nose. He always holds his tail up! He is perfect to me.
Both my ponies are perfect to me in every way possible.
