5 December 2012

It was dark when I met her in the alley between the laundromat and the pizzeria. She was smoking a joint, looking pissed as fuck.

“Hey,” I greeted, offering her a smile.

“I’ve been waiting for fifteen minutes,” she spat, glaring at me.

“Yeah, sorry about that. My parents...”

“I don’t give a fuck about your parents.” She blew the smoke out of her nose. “I’m not your friend, so quit talking to me like one.”

Startled, I said nothing.

“It’s thirty,” she stated, “for making me wait.”

“I only have twenty,” I admitted sheepishly.

She stared at me blankly, the joint hanging loosely between her lips. Making up her mind, she came to life. She took the thing from her mouth and blew the smoke out through her nose. “Well, one gram is fifteen.”

I handed her my twenty and she gave me five dollars and the weed.

“Have a nice night,” I said emotionlessly as I stalked out of the alley.

“Hey, wait,” she called.

I turned around and saw her moving languidly toward me.

“There’s a lot of rumors flying around about you,” she said, inhaling on her joint. “Have you heard any?”

I shook my head no, surprised.

“They’re quite interesting,” she said smirking, the smoke escaping from her lips.

“Are you gonna tell me what they are?” I asked, annoyed.

“No,” she grinned, blowing more smoke into my face. Her face suddenly became solemn, and she said, “But you should stay away from David. He’s bad news.”
