I hate watching sad movies simply because I hate being sad. But this movie...oh hot DAMN it was amazing. I have never seen the old/original one nor have I seen the show live, but the new movie seemed flawless.
The cast was incredible. The way that the movie was filmed was very intense, there were a lot of close ups to truly portray the emotion of the characters. Having a camera zoomed in to your face can be kind of intimidating, but the actors didn't seem affected in the slightest. The actors were convincing...they really seemed upset or heartbroken or whatever emotion that they were trying to get across. And they were all fantastic singers as well. I heard that they sang live, that there was no track that the directors put in while editing.
The filming style was awesome too. And the costumes were so authentic to the time period. The scenery was amazing.
I recommend the movie if you want to see a mind-blowing demonstration of filmography.
I also recommend it if you like crying for 3 hours.
And if you have seen Les Miserables before, I'm sure the new one will please you.
