I saw Rock of Ages last night and I didn't have any expectations because I had never seen the show, nor did I know what it was about. I would definitely suggest that if you are interested in seeing it, see it when it comes out on DVD though. It's not worth the 8-11 bucks to see it in theaters.

CONS: First of all, the actors that they chose were really...weird. Like, Alec Baldwin?? He's great and all but for that movie it was hard for me to get over his long hair and leather jacket when I'm so accustomed to seeing him in suits. The plot was terrible and just very cheesy. Basically a typical romantic plot line.

PROS: The pre-recorded singing didn't make me want to stick knives through my ears. They had nice harmonies and whatever. Some parts (particularly around the end of the movie) were really funny. Russel Brand was hilarious as per usual (he even flippin sings!) and he was probably the best part of the whole movie.

According to my parents, the movie's plot is nothing like the show (from what they actually remember). I don't know if Rock of Ages is supposed to be a cheesy comedy, because if it ways, then it was brilliant. It was, however, very difficult for me to determine what attitude they were going for. Nothing was extremely sad or intense, mostly due to the predictability of the plot. I am sure the Broadway production or live show is amazing, but the movie definitely wasn't.
