I chanced upon a platypus sunning on a rock. Amazingly, as I approached it raised its head to speak, And asked if I had time to sit a bit and talk.
We mused about the vagaries of life and death and love And joked about our families, and our joys and sorrows. She asked about the nature of the clouded specked sky above, And told me of the comforts of her well appointed burrow.
Finally, the time arrived for us to part our ways. She rolled into the water, diving swift beneath the blue, Leaving me with memories to cherish all my days Of the sweet and clever platypus that shared her point of view.
