*Warning - Not for the sensitive. *

He had spent too long in the wild, unaccustomed now how to speak. Lost in the forest since he was a child, no longer a man but a freak.

He was tainted now by the darkness, for through life he'd avoided the light. Keeping himself in the shadows, in the forest all beasts hunt at night.

"By the grace of God" they said when they found him. He was sick, unconscious and weak. If they'd known then what he'd amount to, they'd have drowned the beast in the creek.

They took him back to the homestead, nursed the stranger back to good health. Offered their meagre surroundings, Amish folk live off of gods wealth.

He fed on their food by the handful, regardless of fork or of plate. He snarled at their fragile advances, as they all huddled round him and ate.

They did not see the danger sleeping curled up on the floor. Did not even spare a thought, to lock and bolt his door.

Put two babies to their cots, put two children to their beds. Tucked them up in hand made shawls and kissed their sleepy heads.

They said their prayers together, before drifting off to sleep. Safe in the understanding that their lord their souls would keep.

The sun rose over the meadow, as a beast ran wild in the woods. Jeremiah came a calling, on his neighbour to go gather goods.

Nothing had prepared him, for the sight that he'd soon see. No video games of violence, no bloodshed on tv.

Jeremiah's concept of violence, was a disagreement over choice. What they where having for dinner, or who had the loudest voice.

He opened the door to the homestead, and at first he noticed the smell. Soon after poor Jeremiah was confronted by every Hell.

His neighbour and wife where dismembered. Beaten, bitten and disemboweled. As Jeremiah puked on the floor, in the distance a lone wolf howled.

He steadied himself in the corridor, staggered wrenching into the next room. His memory forever thankful, he could not make out the mess in the gloom.

He could see that nothing was living, just a mass of bone and red. Then rushed to where the babies slept, One was missing, the other was dead.

Jeremiah couldn't call 911, for he did not have a phone. All he had was a horse and cart and a few miles before he got home.

"By the grace of god!" they said when they found her...........
