Charlie Chaplin once said, "Words are cheap. The biggest thing you can say is 'elephant'." A wise statement to many, the incredibly talented and intelligent Charlie Chaplin said this at the fall of silent movies and at the rise of 'talkies.' The reason why 'talkies' succeeded is because in this case, Chaplin is wrong.
Words aren't cheap, words are the most powerful tool in the human arsenal. They make or break friendships, relationships and even careers. The people who master language are in control of themselves and their lives. The reason why words are powerful is because they persuade, argue, explain and inform. It is our passion to learn more about words as words are exclusive purely to humans; our ability to communicate on a higher level than any other animal makes us the dominant species. I feel it is in our nature to develop our greatest tool of all; language.
Words aren't cheap, they are amazing and inspiring, which is why there are so few silent films today; the public wants words. And if everyone everywhere wants words, words truly become the most powerful thing in the world.
