Blank-eyed, you sit Slumped and misshapen Not even stirred to tears Desiccated by despair Mummified by misery.
I anger. I've chivvied and smiled And you gave me nothing You went to bed I painted you glorious futures Where you were happy You said they were fiction
You took my kisses Under sufferance I gave you my heart And you accepted it With dutiful gratitude. Our hearts, once blazing passion Are embers.
Is there not one movement I can make, which, swiftly made - A rush of fresh air - Will blow the smoulderings to burn? Will blow the toxic mood away? Will make you what you were?
I stand in the pool of your gaze But you look right through. I think - 'I love you.' I say - 'Want a cup of tea?' You turn me down. But you look up at me And in your eyes I catch a glint... A tiny shine. In the endless dark Behind your pupils I see light At the end of that tunnel And smile.
