The dark of night aids me, Winds, enticing calm, The chilling gusts, That hold no harm
The dark of night aids me, Full moon so bright, The elongated shadows, Concealing creatures of the night
The dark of night aids me, Calms my being, Conveys confidence, Deepens my seeing
The dark of night aids me, Through the wind's eerie sounds, Whispering through an old paddock, Or between a sleeping town
The dark of night aids me, By its arrival, so sedating, Seducing minds to sleep, But keeping mine up by its presence, invigorating
The dark of night aids me, When it takes me to another land, Where the whispering leaves could be part of a book, And I could hold magic in my hand
The dark of night aids me, By its strong influence, That's causes cares to be flung aside, And a momentary loss of sense
The dark of night aids me, With its calling to adventure Holding a path to the unknown, And many a hidden treasure
The dark of night aids me, By its reassurance of freedom, Reminding me of the open world, And all that I can become
The dark of night aids me, Within its ever present hint of danger, Behind the innocence, Holds a too informed stranger
The dark of night aids me, By showing the simple matters of the world, By setting aside false emotions, And letting hopes be unfurled
And when I lose myself, When I have lost hold on all my plans, On a cool quiet evening, The dark of night aids me, By showing me, who I am.
