Midnight Blue- Chapt 1

Dont fall in love over by the sycamore tree.

"I have no idea, actually" the man admitted. "There are so many things leading to so many catagories: murder, death by unnatural cause, even suicide."
I could tell the word stung my father, and Jonah, too.
Jonah was shaken, a tear welling up in one of his deep blue eyes. "No, officer, it couldnt have been.... That. She told me everything, she didnt have a reason to do it."
"Are you sure?" my father said. "Did anything happen?"
Jonah swallowed. "No," he responded coldly.
Oh, dearest Jonah. Its because you fell in love.

Dont fall in love over by the sycamore tree.
--
Now, I could just tell you the story behind my death, couldnt I? But that would make for a much less interesting story, right?
Haha. I thought so.
Ill go back to the start, so that you can understand everything.

It was a colder day in Shryingsville, but that hadnt stopped the sophmores from having the annual summer party. We always had one because after 10th grade, you were halfway done, halfway to starting your new life, where you could finally choose for yourself.
My friends and I had been dancing for quite a while, and so we decided to go inside where a group of about 13 others were playing truth or dare. We sat. I was in between Ally and Sarabelle, my best friends. Sarabelle had desperately wanted to be Solstice Queen- the party was held on the summer solstice- and I always picked fun at her about it. Since it was a much smaller pool of candidates, you could vote for whoever and then whoever got the most votes won. Keep this in mind, because it plays in later.
Now, Im not a huge fan of dares, so I usually pick truth- when this happened:
Mackenzie Davis picked on me. "Leia, truth or dare?" And without skipping a beat I picked truth. "Is it true youre a huge wuss and thats why you wont pick dares?" Everyone burst out laughing, even Sarabelle and Ally. I didnt know what to do, but I didnt like so many people making fun of me.
"Stop," someone said. Jonah Wynd. "Dont do that, its not funny.."
I could feel my face grow warm. "No," I said. "In fact, Ill take a dare." I glanced at Jonah. "Right now."
He shyed away after we caught eyes, as if he thought Id hated him for saying anything. But I didnt. Youll see it pop up later on.
Makenzie's eyes gleamed. "Alright!!" she clapped her hands, and her friends Mitch and Sharie huddled around her. They whispered kind of loud, though, and I picked out the phrases "pristine" and "never been kissed". I gulped. Okay, who would they send me in the closet dare with?
"We dare you to go in the closet with Matt Damon."
I felt like Id been slapped. Matt Damon, a jock who, although cute, was a jerk and notorious for getting to atleast second base with every girl. Some even more. Except me. Which made this the ideal dare, right?
I frowned standing up and walking over. Matt held the door open and whispered, "Ladies first."
He closed the door behind him and walked over to me, stroking my hair. "Please dont," I whispered.
He laughed. "And ruin my reputation? Please."
He pressed onto me and I sank down, fighting to keep his face away from mine. "Matt! Stop!" I said hushed.
He chuckled, "Make me!"
I growled. "You sick perv!"
I grabbed the handle of the door, and stormed out through the room and out the front door, when Matt caught my arm and turned me around. "Leia," he said, his voice all of a sudden soft. "Stop, please."
I looked at everyone else over his shoulder and then glared at him. "Stay away from me," I hissed at him, tossing his arm off me and running out the door.
So there I was, at the highlight of the year, all alone with nothing to do.
There were beer kegs all over, even though none of us should be drinking. I considered getting a drink, but decided Id be better off sober. I was the DD for my group, afterall. Actually, I thought. Why take them home? Theyre jerks to me anyways.
I walked along a path in the woods, noticing every detail. A small cluster of tiger lillies lay near a pond, and I picked one, sniffing it. I tucked it behind my ear and walked along some more. I put my hands in my pockets. I sighed. The only reason that I havent had my first kiss is because all the guys here always look for the slutty girls which is totally pointless. In fact, I think its safe to say about three fourths of the grade arent virgins.
I came to a circular meadow with a sycamore tree in the middle. Im not sure how long I was walking, but I guessed atleast ten minutes. I walked over and sat under the tree, its branches shading me a little, the grass wet, soaking the back of my pants. I leaned my head against the back of the tree and closed my eyes, humming a lullaby my mom used to sing to me when I was litttle.
I had gotten through the entire thing about three times, roughly ten minutes, when a voice greeted me. "Hey, Leia."
I prayed it wasnt Matt as I opened my eyes. An it wasnt. It was Jonah.
"Jonah. Hi."
He scratched the back of his hea and blushed.
"Mind if I sit?"
"Sure, but its wet."
He laughed. "Thats alright." He sat down.
A few minutes passed before he spoke again. "So they only gave you that dare because you havent ever been kissed?"
I scowled. "Right."
"Neither have I," he breathed out. "Most of the girls here rate guys on looks.... To them Im just some... Some nerdy geeky kid that you can get to do all your work."
"Cutest nerd Ive seen," I said really, really quietly.
He looked at me. "Really?"
I nodded. "And you shouldnt just let people copy off you." I stood up, brushing off my pants.
"Wait," he replied, standing up. "You mean it?"
I blushed and grabbed his hand as I started to jog towards the path. "Come on. Theyll be announcing King and Queen soon."

As we entered the football field, the huge screen was lit up with the phrase "WHO WILL BE SOLSTICE KING AND QUEEN???" in huge neon letters. We had to text who we wanted to a number, and it would all be digitally tallied.
My dad, the main chaperone, stepped up to the microphone. For most of the party, chaperones hung out at the field because it wasnt as loud there. "Attention!" his voice boomed. "You may now start to cast your votes!"
I took out my cell phone. "Who are you voting for?" Jonah asked, texting.
I grinned. "Who are you voting for?"
"I asked first!"
"And I asked second."
He blushed. "You and me...." he admitted quietly.
My face grew red. "Im voting for Sarabelle and Jake, they both wanted it," I lied. I did the same thing.
A few moments later, my dad announced that the votes were tallied. "And the Solstice Queen," he continued, sounding very pleased, "is Leia Nolan!"
I laughed. I won! Does that mean enough people voted for me and Jonah? I glanced at him. I hoped so. I made my way to the stage as my dad crowned me and put a sash around me. Even though this was like Prom, no one wore poofy dresses, or tuxes. That wouldnt make it special, would it?
The sash was a deep blue.... Midnight blue, I thought, remember a crayon I used for a project. Yeah, it was that color. In gold letters read "2012 Solsrice Queen!"
Then I felt a pang of guilt as I found Sarabelle's dissapointed face, but pride Id beaten Charlotte, the snotty girl who seemed destined to get Queen, and a rush of excitement as I saw Jonah's smiling face. I turned back to my dad, who hugged me tight as the crowd cooed out, "AWWW!"
"Im proud," he said, smiling. "I love you."
"I love you too Daddy."
He laughed. "Now for the King!!"
"Solstice King is.....
.....
..
Matt Damon!"
My heart sank. Oh no.
--

I knew you did that on purpous,Matt. You wanted me so you told everyone to vote for us, and since the huge blowout during truth or dare, why not? And you were furious I wouldnt kiss or hug or even hold your hand. But you sickened me, Matt.
There were soo many reasons for Matt to hate me. More to come later, FYI. Stick around. We have a ways to go if you wanna hear my story.
