My team consisted of three people I trusted more than anything. Set, Dal and Rot were just about the only people I trusted enough to know that they would kill me if I were bitten. And I would kill them. It was respect that we felt for each other and the amount of love we felt that helped us to agree.
Set looked up as I stepped into the tent. She nodded then went back to her book. She was probably trying to find a new way to kill things. Or a way not to kill them, knowing her.
"You can't disarm them. What would you disarm? Their teeth?" Rot snapped. That's why he had the nickname of a Rottweiler because he had a big bite sometimes.
"Alright listen up, ladies." I grinned then winked at Dal. "I need my best men and I guess you guys'll do."
I guess some things you could joke about. Like sissy pants Dal. He hated getting dirty, and hated shooting, but he was a good technician and could hack anything or override any system. He was a good asset.
"Please tell me we get to shoot something" Rot grinned, looking all flesh and not much teeth. He pulled most of his teeth out last time because he said he'd rather starve than kill a loved one. I admired his thought process.
"I'd rather not kill anything today, Rod. On a strict vegan diet." Set grinned into her book as she scribbled something down.
"Tough luck. The vegan will have to wait just one more day. We're going to get food from the tower and we are going now." I replied.
They all looked at me now. Three different pairs of eyes. One green, one chocolate brown and one grey. All staring at me as if I were mad but there were hints of a smile on each of their lips. As if to clarify their agreement, Dal's stomach growled. Everyone was hungry and we were ready to get food.
I knew we could do this. I had brains, tactics, accuracy and brawn. We were "the" team that everyone wanted to be in. We were the 4 who made everything happen and we were going back to the tower, to steal food for our family. We were ready, prepared and fearless.
Or we seemed fearless, I hope, because deep down I knew we were all terrified. We wasn't ready to face another bout of zombies and we were jumping straight into the deep end, just like before.
