Hope

When my heart was breaking
And the air was cold
There was no one left for me to hold
They were taken from me
In the dead of night
We were all shaking from fright
When our whole world was ripped apart
They took us somewhere for a new start
Camps and farms
They sold us one by one
Vermin and pigs
That was our new name
It just wasn't the same
But I stayed hopeful
That is the only thing to do
And I helped those around me too
I had hope that one day I'll go
I'll go home and live back in my house
I'd have a family with the love of my life
And that gave me hope
It helped me live through

The inspiration for this poem is two things. The first is the book "Between Shades of Grey" and the second is the quote, "In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer."
