Prologue
"My heart is the key" He whispered as he looked up at the sky. He knew that somehow he would have to give up his heart to save the world. The same world that had shot him down many times before.
"Ready, Sable?" His friend asked, looking at him now.
"You know what, Resus? I think I am" Sable replied with a smile on his face. He knew this was right, it was something he had to do... Nope, something he wanted to do.
Resus smiled back. "Me too, Brother. Me too"
Resus had always called him brother although they were not related, just the best of friends.
"I guess this is goodbye?" Sable couldn't help the tear that escaped out the side of his eye.
Sadly, Resus nodded. "This is, Brother." He replied. "See you in hell?"
Sable started to laugh, "Remember," He paused to wink at Resus, "stay away from the light"
"Of course" Resus laughed.
Sable asked, "Is that a promise?" as he started to walk away from Resus. He was walking towards a great ball of light, it was his job to save the world and he knew it too. The world just didn't know, well there was a few people who did know and they were the people who mattered the most.
But this was his time and he was ready to give his life for the ones he loved, even if they didn't know he loved them.
The last thing he heard as he stepped into the light was Resus' broken voice.
"I love you, Brother"
Chapter 1 - Amia
Having known Resus for years, I knew what he had been through and not many people could outright say that.
"Resus honey" A sweet voice called out. It was a sickly sweet voice and i hated it.
"My turn to leave?" I whispered the question, a smirk on my lips.
Licking the chocolate off his hands, Resus shook his head. Typical.
"Resus?" The voice called out again. "Can we talk?"
Resus talk? Dream on, 'honey'. I started to giggle and got a dirty look off of Resus.
"Darling, we can cook rainbow cookies and take them to Fairytale Bridge and give them to all the little pixies and goblins and all the little leprechauns" I teased, which did not amuse Resus. Nothing amused Resus. I left not long later because his mum did actually want to bake cakes with him and she doesn't like me and banned me from the house.
The moon was bright on this one night. It was as if I was looking up into a white sun, burning to look at but you can't help but look. It was pretty.
"Amia!" A voice shouted, excitement thick in it. I stopped now and looked around but I was alone.
"Amia, up here!" I had heard that voice before, I was sure of it... But he was dead.
"He IS dead" I said aloud, trying to clear things in my brain.
"Look! See! Listen!" His voice replied, it was something we had said a lot. It was our sort of 'hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" or whatever it was and no one else knew it but us, not even Resus.
"You're dead, Sable" My voice broke when I said his name.
"No" He laughed and then he started to sing. The voice of my dead friend was singing my favourite song, which only he knew.
"Tonight I've fallen and I can't get up
I need your loving hands to come and pick me up
And every night I miss you I can just look up
And know the stars are holding you
Holding you
Holding you
Tonight"
"Sable, you're dead" I whispered.
"Please, Amia. Please just look up" He replied.
So I did ....
