Poem I wrote in 2009, that was inspired by Betsy Byers' book, 'The Midnight Fox'
Out of the darkness came a fox,
A black fox,
Her fur like midnight,
Her eyes like stars.
She moved over the rocks with great ease,
Into the shadows.
All I could see of her was her eyes,
Twinkling like yellow gems,
Until she stopped.
Her ears twitching,
She crouched low.
I knew what she was going to do...
POUNCE!
Up into the air she leapt,
Then down again ,
On the ground.
In her jaws lay her prey.
She clambered up the side of the ravine,
Into the forest,
Away and and away.
That was the time I saw the black fox,
Her fur like midnight,
Her eyes like stars.
