She stumbled through, her dress dragging along and catching on every root she stepped on, on every branch she passed. It was dark and hard to see, and she thought she heard voices every now and then. It was easier to walk in the snow than it was to walk in the muddy patches. She didn't care about her dress anymore. Her aim was escaping this wretched place. She stumbled along, just trying to get out. If she went in one direction, surely she would find her way out… the trees were black and gnarled, the leaves dark, blotting out the moonlight. She knew it was late. Every once in a while, she saw… a gap. Yes, a gap. It was like a shadow inside a shadow, shifting around and following her wherever she went. The snow was tumbling down from the sky, how it got past the thickened canopy she had no idea. She tripped and fell forwards into the freezing snow. She recognised this place. She looked ahead and saw… footprints… her own footprints. She looked ahead and she saw that they went of into a misty distance. There was no end to it. It was like living in a mirror…
And the world shattered
