The shoe was cold in her hand, the sand sticking to the leather as if trying to suck the life out of the object. The redness of the colour slowly fading with the sea water that seemed to pour and then slowly trickle out of the Mary Jane shoe.
Amelia looked up through blurred eyes at the sky, her face glistening as tears took a journey down her cheeks. Why did she leave her little sisters hand go, the memory still haunted her even as voices now got louder. "she found a shoe," the voice sliced through her thoughts and the teenager looked up to see the concerned adults racing to her. Hope etched on their faces as they drew near but Amelia knew her little sister Grace was lost to the sea.
