Chapter 2
He's late. Of course he is, but where could he be? It's not like he got a detention or anything or he got into a fight.
It's the end of the school day, me and Abby are standing outside in the snow, waiting for Josh to get here so we can leave.
I check my phone to see what time it is, 3:17.
"Ugh, what's taking him so long..?"
Abby is an impatient person, you'll be able to figure that out later.
"I don't know," I say."do you think we should go look for him?"
"Why bother, we should just go."
"Ok, I guess."
So we leave. I don't care if he gets mad at us.
I hear something behind us. I strain my ears to listen...
"Wait!"
I turn around and see Josh running towards us. He slips. I can't help sneaking out a little laugh.
"You ok?" I ask.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
My curiosity gets to me. As I open my mouth to ask him what took him so long, Abby beats me to it.
"Oh, I forgot my math book in my locker, so I had to go back and get it."
"You do realize we have like, 3 days to finish that?" Abby says.
He curses under his breath. I can tell he's pissed.
"We better get going its getting late." I say.
"Yeah." They say in unison.
We start walking home, again. We walk in silence for a while, but someone behind us breaks the silence.
"Hey guys! Wait up!"
It was Kayley and her sister, Kiely.
"Oh great." Abby whispers to me.
I glance at Josh, he doesn't seem to mind.
"So, where are ya guys heading?" Kayley asks, much to my annoyance.
"Home, where else?" I try not to sound snotty, but I can't help it.
In our first year of middle school, me and Kayley went to the park with each other and she dumped sand down the back of my shirt. I was so pissed at her, so I still hold a grudge against her.
"Oh we thought you were going to the park. Cause that's where we-"
I cut her off.
"That's nice," I say."You probably should hurry."
"Yeah, I guess," Says Kiely. "see ya later Josh."
They turn and were left alone in the growing darkness.
"Thank God they're gone." Josh says.
I'm surprised. And I think Abby is too.
"Oh, I thought you liked them?" I ask.
"What? You though I liked them," He says. "They annoying."
"Yeah," Abby says. "Last night they kept texting an calling me, they wanted me to spend the night at their house."
I hate their house. It smells like smoke and well, anything that is disgusting. Probably cause their parents smoke.
"Ew, I can't stand the smell if their house. It makes me wanna bend over and throw up." I say.
"You've been in their house before?" Josh asks, seeming surprised.
"Yeah, when I was little. But it didn't really bother me until now."
We are almost to my house (and Abby's). We continue walking in silence. I don't know why but, I feel sick. What seems like an hour, we finally reach my door.
"Bye, Payton." Says Abby.
I close the door without saying anything.
I walk down the hall to the bathroom. I lean over the toilet and I throw up.
