A silent river, bathed in morning sun,
The awakening of today, the dawn has begun,
The flies buzzing wildly, petal to grass,
River, still, perfect as new-bought glass,
The stranger lurking, with a deadly claw,
Scanning, searching, the flight is her law,
Scaly thorax glinting, wings of lace spread,
Every hovering critter, is as good as toasted bread,
Mandibles clicking loudly, humming as she flies,
The small but dangerous predator, hunting with a million eyes,
Darting to and fro like nowhere is right,
The entire hunt relies on her flight,
Target spotted, vision locked on,
Diving forward, she cannot get it wrong,
In midair the fly goes down,
The river jewel wears the hunting crown,
The cycle will forever continue, a repeat another day,
But until the next day of hunting, her majesty hides away.
