Mesmerised, upon your lap
A girl of only three.
Cowering behind your hands
Your eyes I cannot see.
A single shaft of God's good light
Set glory on your face,
A knowing smile spread on my lips.
'Daddy, angel rays!'
Of course I am no longer small,
And now I'm all alone
Catching buttered angel rays.
Your Maker called you home.
Yet, although you are not here with me,
Your service on Earth done,
You shine on me and still seem to say
'I see you, little one.'
