The Elements: Fire

I am within you,
I am without.
I can make you a genius
Or burn you out,
I can melt you like plastic
In a fiery furnace,
I can make you crack
Make you ashes, worthless.
I rage through your world
Eating through my sisters,
Don't touch me, I'm hot
And I'll leave you with blisters,
I'm both your life and the fuel
Of your existence, warmth and food,
But if you set me free
The results won't be good.
I am your drive
Both dangerous and sustaining,
I can burn you alive
Or bring fame while you're gaining
Speed, as you rush
Past the forests I whither,
You've let me loose now,
Destruction's the winner.
Wasn't meant to be contained
In hearths or in man,
You've set this firecracker off now
Catch me if you can.
I am the agent
That bears you past Death,
Coffin and all,
Can't withstand my breath.
Feed me when inside you,
Your ambitions the embers
That grow and consume
Until life's December ,
And when I've left you
Before Heaven or Hell,
When you're spark is gone,
You're just a shell.
