The Somnambulist

I begin my journey
unaware.
In my own world
where I am safe.

Then someone catches my eye,
Someone beautiful.
She draws me closer.
Like a wasp to honey,
Moth to a flame.

Steadily I walk towards her.
The ground filled with obstacles
I gingerly step over them,
blindly....
I feel...
Unsafe...

I lose my footing.
I stumble forwards
through a barrier.
The cringing sound of shattered glass
wounds me, cuts me deep.
Falling.....

Falling....

.....Shock.

They found my body in the morning
A forlorn look on my face
Shards of glass strewn all around me
Stone-cold dead.

Powerful stuff. Really unexpected ending, I liked this a lot!

@shanwan thanks :) glad you like it!

Love the ending. The dangers of sleep walking! ... and chasing imaginary women ;)

Beautiful and sad

@jojo72 @naaviie thanks guys! :)

Is this a narcissist walking towards his own reflection? Or just a regular sleep walker? I see a vain sleepwalker drawn by their own reflection and paying the price of one of seven deadly sins. Like it, very much. Xx

@eliza great observation :D that's what I intended to come across!

Hurrah! This is why I LOVE poetry!

@Dovahkiin : I guess you're a bit like me, heavy on the imagery. Doesn't always make it easy to understand, but makes it more private for the writer and more special for the reader when they figure it out. Xx

@eliza exactly :D I do that a lot in my poetry...and I don't let anything slip unless someone points it out!
