That Should Be Me: Pt 3

Justin's POV
"I told you he'd find those pictures" I sighed, running the small cloth under the ice cold tap. Phoenix grumbled a reply, staring down at her swinging legs as she sat on the bathroom counter top.
"I put them away. Maybe if he didn't root through my stuff all the time..." she muttered, her lips pouting.
I abruptly shut the tap of and rung out the cloth, before stepping in front of Phoenix.
"Look to the right a bit" I told her, my free hand gently touching her chin to make her do as she was told.
When the icy cold material came in contact with her painful cheek, she drew in a sharp breath through gritted teeth.
"It stings" she whimpered gently, her hand covering mine as I held the cloth to her right cheek.
"Give it a minute" I said quietly, focusing on how to make this as painless as possible for her.
"Thanks for picking me up by the way... I know you were with the guys" she smiled gently at me, beneath the exterior, a wince of stinging pain.
"That's ok. I'd rather be with you anyway" I gave a feeble smile in return, probably nowhere near as enthusiastic as she was, but it didn't matter.
We fell silent as I continued to dab at her cheek, and she pretended to stare around my fancy en suite bathroom as if she'd never been here before.
Her almost-white blonde hair was cropped short, to a bit below her ear, and she always left it to stick out a bit, her pixie-shaped nose and thin lips accentuated by her chosen hair style.
Even though green wasn't her favourite colour, she was in love with her own eyes. They shone like two beacons of light in the dark, even when she was angry or upset, they still looked like a blessing from God.
Her body was pretty damn perfect, which is annoying for me, because she barely ever lets me touch her - today at the beach was a freakin' miracle.
She has perfect curves, her legs toned and waist tight, and her hips are just... Whoa. I'm dizzy just thinking about them.
Whereas most Floridian girls are tanned, Phoenix is probably one of the palest people in Daytona, and trust me, it isn't a bad thing. It gives her this sort of... Innocent type of.. Vibe, I guess. It just works for her. It makes her look all the more attractive.
Phoenix is a little bit vain. She's kind of obsessed with how she looks. Right when she wakes up, her make-up goes on, and right before she goes to sleep, she takes it off. I am extremely lucky to have seen her without make-up on. Anybody would be. She hates it when I see her without it on, she snuggles up in her bed (Or in my bed, depending on who's we're sleeping over at), and tugs the covers up over her head until she's so tired she just falls asleep under there.
I say she's crazy.
She says she's ugly.
See? I'm right.
"Alright Nix, you're all done" I said, and threw the cloth into the sink. I took her by the waist and set her down on the floor in front of me, a soft blush appearing on her porcelain cheeks at the feel of my touch.
I chuckled to myself. She's so innocent, it's really cute.
We left the bathroom, and walked out into my bedroom, falling down onto the double bed in silence.
"Personally, I prefer your house" I stated with a smug grin.
"You do? Why on earth would you prefer my house?" she giggled gently, mirroring my position of hands clasped on my stomach, facing the ceiling.
"Because you have a single bed".
"I don't get how that's a good thing" she laughed softly, not getting my point.
"Well, in a single bed, I have an excuse to be pressed up against you" I smirked, rolling over to hover above her, my hands either side of her head.
She laughed at my joke - although I was completely serious ;) - and tried to playfully push me off.
I wouldn't let her, and held my ground, attaching myself to her body as she giggled uncontrollably.
"Justin! Get off!" she exclaimed in laughter, her hands pushing at any available part of my body.
"Never" I smiled mischievously, and began to kiss her neck, her jaw, her cheek, anywhere that would allow it.
And then, there was nowhere left to kiss - other than her lips.
I stared down at her pale, rose pink lips, lightly parted, as if in wait for my own. Phoenix's eyes were full of anticipation.
Was I going to kiss her?
Wasn't I?
I don't even think I know myself.
I leant down to her, close, so close that I could feel her breath on my lips, I could smell her sweet perfume, could see every ornate detail of those perfect lips.
I wanted to taste her lips. I wonder what she'd taste like? Probably something really good. Sweet, yet slightly sour at the same time. I bet she'd taste like popcorn or candy. Something amazing.
I wanted to kiss her.
I wanted to kiss her really badly.
I'd never had that feeling before.
Sure I'd wanted to do some things to her, but... Kissing is for... Couples, for people in love; and not the way that me and Nix are in love.
We are not a couple.
We don't love each other like that.
Just as Phoenix stretched up to me, our lips gave a single, tender brush, before I abruptly changed my mind.
I shot backwards, up and off the bed, getting as far away from those amazingly cute lips as possible.
My heart hammered against my chest, the blood roaring in my ears as I realised what I had just almost done.
Phoenix looked as if she was in just as much shock and confusion as I was.
"Justin... Are you okay?" she furrowed her brow, sitting up straight on the bed.
I ignored her question. There was no need to answer it.
"I'm sorry Phoenix. That was a mistake. I shouldn't have even thought to do that. I'm sorry I led you on" I babbled, sort of harshly, before walking briskly out of the room.
That was a close one.
A real, real close one.
