Chapter 2
New Girl
"Hey, you hear we're getting a new student? Apparently she's a homeschool chick." Logan looked up to see Emmet walking up to him, a weary look hidden behind an open smile. He tried not to let it bother him, he knew he'd blown up on him the day before.
"Yeah, I did." he ran his hand through his hair mildly and the two began their walk towards school.
"The weird thing is there's this pic going around and she looks nineteen or something, not sixteen."
Logan shrugged, unconcerned, "So she flunked. Anyways, what are you doing later? I'm going by the graveyard and though you might want to come."
Emmet gave him a strange look, part realization, part amusement and part incredulity. "If you wanted to talk to me you coulda said so- or at least chosen somewhere I wouldn't piss myself approaching."
Logan flushed slightly as he abruptly remembered his friend's fear of anything deemed 'scary' by Hollywood. It was frankly a pathetic fear but considering he was otherwise one of the bravest people Logan knew he didn't push it. "Fine, but I was serious about going to the graveyard later so if I forget that's where I'll be."
Emmet gave him a weak glare and mumbled something that sounded like, "And knowing you you'll 'forget' on purpose."
The two friends continued to tease each other as they made their way to class and only shut up when their teacher, Mr. Keys walked in.
"Settle down, Mr. Harvey, do I need to threaten detention do early? I thought not." Once everyone was seated he cleared his throat, his brown eyes flicking to the door. "Now, today we will be having a new student. I expect you all to treat her well- which means I better not get and complaints, is that clear?" Everyone nodded, clearly interested in this new student. "Good, please come in Miss Summers."
A striking girl, taller than most of the class with very tan skin midnight black hair and dark brown eyes stepped in. Logan looked her over, mentally agreeing with Emmet, she did look nineteen- and very pretty.
"Hello, my name is Tiwane Summers, but you can all call me Tiwa." Logan raised an eyebrow. Perhaps he should have guessed from her appearance but her name solidified it- Native American. She couldn't be anything else.
"Very well Miss Summers, why din't you sit next to Ralen- Mr. Harvey raise your hand."
The burley boy raised his hand and Tiwa smiled and walked over to the empty desk. As she passed Logan's desk she shot him an indecipherable look that those around him took as flirting but he just thought it was some sort of... challenge.
"Score dude." He heard Emmet whisper but he didn't reply, watching the new girl's back, his brow furrowed.
There was seething about her. Something he was determined to figure out.
