CAFE LOVE

CHAPTER 6
I went to make breakfast but got interrupted by a knock at the door. It was dad with the mattress
"Hello!"

"Hello." I pulled the door open more so that he could come in

"I bought the mattress," he said stating the obvious "Where should I put it?"

"Um upstairs, in my room. Can you manage?" I asked. He nodded and slowly trudged upstairs. As I was walking into the kitchen, I heard the phone ringing. Am I ever going to be able to make breakfast, let alone eat it? I thought. It was Max's voice at the other end
"Corrine, hi!" he said as if he were expecting someone else
"That's me!" I replied "Why did you call?"

"Er, well, um…" his voice sounded dry and he didn't seem like himself
"Max? It's me you can tell me anything!" I teased

He laughed but then said "I wanna talk to you, how about at 6, I come and pick you up?"

"Ok?" I was confused about everything that just happened. Why couldn't we talk over the phone?
I put the phone down and heard dad say good bye and then the door slamming shut.
I finally walked into the kitchen but then decided I wasn't hungry. Typical.
I didn't have much to do that day, only to sit and wait for Max to come by.

At ten to six I went upstairs and stumbled over the mattress towards my wardrobe. I picked out a short sleeved blue checked shirt and a pair of jeans. I then heard a knock at the door. I quickly dressed and ran to the door.
"Hi!" I smiled
"Hi!" Max said kissing me

"So where are you taking me?" I asked "Don't say 'you'll see' either!"

"I can't say anything then." he smirked. I grinned and got in his car.

We then pulled up on a beach. No one was there, only a few people fishing out to sea in small boats. I looked confused and Max could tell. He took my hand and walked me to a small hut with only one window.
"Hello?" Max asked peering through the window

"Hey Max, she's all ready for you!" a gruffly voice answered back

"Thanks!" Max lead me down the beach and stopped at a rowing boat. Max got in and patted the seat in front of him. He smiled. I did too and stepped on board. The boat rocked about as I sat down but as soon as Max started to row further out to sea, it calmed down. After a while of rowing Max said
"This should be good enough." he stopped and looked at me. I looked at him, puzzled.
"What are we doing here?" I questioned
"Oh look behind you," he exclaimed "It's some type of rare bird, look!" I turned round, eager to see what he had seen. Nothing. Nothing was there?
"What? There's noth…" I turned round and got interrupted by a small shine coming from Max's hands. I looked up and saw Max's face gleaming.
"Corrine, I love you and I wish to spend the rest of my life with you," he smiled and I still looked shocked "Will you give me your hand in marriage?"

"YES!" I said. He took my hand and placed the ring on my finger. It was beautiful. We both reached forward and as the sun tinted the water with its orange color, we kissed.

We arrived back at my house at half ten.
"How should we tell my family and friends as I'm assuming your family already know, don't they?"

"They do." he said "How about we have lunch with everyone and tell them then?" I agreed.

The next day, Max came over at quarter past nine. He had bought some roses. I thanked him and put them in a vase. I called all my friends and family and Max then called his family and friends, even though they already knew.
At twelve everyone started to arrive.
