Those few hours were enough,
Some freedom for a while,
A dance or two, I laughed again,
I even cracked a smile!
And even when the clock struck twelve,
My face still shone so bright,
I knew I would return to dark,
Yet I had seen the light!
I'd felt true love, I'd drunk and fed,
And even though it stopped,
I wore the night's joy on my face,
As I washed and mopped.
Magic, even briefly done,
So special to my eyes,
Was worth those twenty years of toil,
Was worth all last night's lies.
