It was the intruder’s voice. I then ran up the hill just wanting to get away as fast as I could. I was clasping my arm as I ran trying not to let it move about too much because of the pain. I decided to head up the road towards Adela’s house. But she lived too far away. If I did go to her house I would make it there by about four in the morning. My other friend Esme lives nearby, I could always go to her house because she only lives about half an hour away. I then decided to dash for her house. On the way I got some strange looks of concern and worry from passer-by’s but I decided to take no notice of them. Before I knew it I was outside Esme’s house. I looked up to her bedroom window and saw a shadow of her talking to someone on the phone. I decided to wait until she hung up. Seconds seemed like hours. Finally she gave a final laugh down the phone and placed her phone down on a surface. I think it was her bed or her desk but I wasn’t too sure. I then looked around. I was trying to see if I could find anything to grab her attention without waking or notifying her parents. I then spotted a few lone small stone in her front garden. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind I thought. I picked up a small handful and started to throw them at her window. After each one I waited for a response but there was none. I was down to my last few until she finally peered around her curtains. Once she figured out who it was she opened her curtains all of the way. Then she held up her finger to tell me she would be one minute. I waited and she came back with a small key. She opened her window with the key and stuck her head out of the window.
“What are you doing out here Sophie?” she said
“I was wondering if I could talk to you” I replied back trying to hold back my tears. I then held up my bruised arm and her face was filled with horror.
“Wait there; I’m coming down” before I could even blink she was out of sight and on the other side of the door. The door made a clicking sound and flew open. Esme stood there panting clearly out of breath from tackling the 5 flights of stairs in her house.
