I peeled off my black tank top, replacing it with a tan one. And over that, a white, fishnet t. I pulled on some light blue shorts, and yanked my hair into my official fishtail braid, falling down my back. Even though my hair is blonde, it looked.... Blonder against the white.
After stumbling past 15 doors and down two flights of stairs, I entered the kitchen feeling accomplished. But as I walked into the cooking area, I realized something: no one was awake yet. This was something extremely rare. Not only did I live in a family of 18 people, but not one of them ever woke up after 8:00am. And it was 8:30 already. 'Damn' I thought, opening the cabinet and rummaging through all 6 cereal boxes, only to find all of them empty. What the hell was going on here?
I pushed past the table and walked into the room labeled ' m & d'. Mom and dads room was deserted. I checked the driveway: both mini vans were gone, along with uncle Jim's sports car. Then I remembered: Today was the first day of school. And my oh so caring family had forgotten me. Stupid freaks. What was I supposed to do now? Oh yeah, I said reaching into my pocket and thinking of the obvious. Well, duh. Call the damned jerks. Give them a valuable life lesson about not forgetting their oldest daughter on her first day of high school. How rude, I thought, pressing the call button on my cell. It rang twice before a female voice answered.
" mom!?" I asked, pressing the phone closer to my ear.
" sweety!" Mom gasped, clearly worried.
" mother dear, why the hell did you leave me home!?!?!?" Mom took a deep breath before I decided on hanging up. God I was mad. The bitch.
I woke up just as mom was opening my door, just to remind me that today I had to getup right then, else I'd miss the bus. Goddamn mother. Remembering my dream, I looked at myself. In the dream, I'd been wearing a black tank top when I woke up. Right now, I was dressed in the same clothes I was wearing in my dream... Strange. I lifted the mirror to eye level, examining my face. Odd. It was dressed in the same makeup I'd applied .... In... My... Dream. After that,I was just confused. Pulling the covers back over my head, I drifted intros dreamless sleep. Until, that is, mom came in 5 minutes before school started. " Avery, dude, I woke you up An hour ago!" She dragged me out of bed. Embarrassing? Yes.annoying? Also yes!
" and I must have fallen asleep an hour ago..." I muttered. "What's that? " mom asked, glaring at me for ( no doubt) wasting her time.
" uhh..." I said, backing out the door. Again, mom glared, this time closing the door, her still inside. Freak.
as I peeked into classroom 4A, yes, I was late again, something stopped me. it was a funny whirring noise coming from the drinking fountain. it was convenyently placed outside the classroom for the convienyence of others. I pressed the 'on' button- no water. Suddenly, the whirring stopped, and I glanced around to see if anyone was watching my, uh, skill with attempting to fix it. No one was in sight.
After trotting into the classroom and experiencing something very embarrassing, me trying to plop gracefully I to my chair and missing, I awaited the end of school bell. What I didn't know wouldn't hurt me, right?
