His golden hair was illuminated by a single beam of light that danced on each hair, making them glimmer and shine. He was wearing a white polo shirt, crisp and clean, with a pair of maroon shorts and his pair of maroon flip flops. He'd come here, to meet me. Not Mollie, but me.
"She's not going to jump out from behind a tree or something is she?" I joked.
"I hope not." Nate said "Because I'd really like to talk about last night". His voice had a serious tone to it, and I couldn't help but feel that the grin should be wiped off my lips, and I should also have a stern air about me.
I managed to reduce my smile to a mere smirk, and I looked him in the eye as he rested down next to me.
"What happened, T?"
"I don't know... Just please don't tell M" I said, bowing my head and relaxing the muscles in my face, so it was neutral and unreadable. I looked down into my lap, and started to play with the seam of my dress. I felt the bench shift a little as he edged closer to me, so he could reach his hand under my chin and hold it up.
"It's a good thing I enjoyed it then, isn't it?" he said, flashing his teeth in a smile. His face leaned in towards mine, and his head tilted. His lips touched mine, and initially I froze. Was this really happening? Was Nate kissing me? He stopped, and held my face in his hands.
"What's wrong?" he asked "Is something the matter?"
I thought about Mollie, and how she'd feel if she knew about this. Then I thought about how she'd been with me for the past few days, and how long I'd dreamed of this happening.
"Nothing's wrong," I said, "in fact, everything's perfect!"
I leaned in and kissed him again, and again, until our lips opened, and I realised how strongly I was I love with this man.
His hands were stroking my hair, and my hands were resting where his heart was positioned in his chest. I could feel it beating feverishly, and it made me smile. I loved his heartbeat. I loved the feel of his soft lips. Most of all, I loved the feeling of being with him. Despite all the complications that would inevitably be involved in our future together, this moment was so perfect, I somehow didn't care.
He pulled away and looked into my eyes. There was an unusual emotion in them today: one I had never seen him possess before. Was it love? Just as I pondered this question, he kissed my forehead, and allowed me to rest my head on his muscular chest, so I could listen to his heartbeat more and more. I hoped that this simple beat would become the soundtrack to a never ending summer, and that this could be the beginning of something amazing.
