"Look there's nothing we can do. Come back tomorrow, and the boss'll be here" he droned boringly. I watched his grey eyes as they stared at me.
"The advert said to come today for the job.. I've always wanted to be an artist and I just thought this would.." I trailed off to see if he was listening. He stared down at the floor, his scruffy blonde hair covering one eye. I sighed impatiently and drummed my fingers on the desk. "Fine. Tomorrow." I sighed , letting myself out of the glass office filled with paintings and sketches.
"He said the boss wasn't there" I called to Angelique, my closest friend. She rolled her eyes and smacked her hand down on the leather steering wheel of her car to the beat of the music.
"Damn, really?! I'll drive you tomorrow, Riley. Okay?" she said, chewing her gum in between words. I smiled and nodded, looking around to see if anyone heard my name. I had such a boyish name and I hated it. I jumped into the seat of Angelique's lime green Ferrari and closed my eyes, humming to my favourite song.
I felt a tap on my arm, and flickered my eyes open. "Should I let you off here?" angelique asked. I nodded and hopped out, waving her off then continuing to walk, kicking a snail away.
"What did that snail ever do to you?" came a voice.
I kept my head down. "I was actually trying to roll it away with my foot. "
I heard a laugh. I looked up. A guy. Who had a cute smile and was talking to me! "Right.. No feelings of envy, she had a slightly better shell than you or..?" he asked. I smiled and walked away from him. He sped towards me and we walked alongside each other.
"I'm Jake." He said.
"So why've you started walking this way.. Jake?"
He smiled. I had to try and worm my way out of having to mention my boyish name.
"I moved into Fairview avenue.. You know it?"
"I live there.. I'm num-"
I was interrupted by a voice behind me. We turned to see a pretty, tanned brunette girl with brown eyes, and a good, slim figure.. (Apart from her flat chest)
"Jake..!" She squealed, wrapping her arms around his neck as he lifted her up by her waist while kissing her cheek.
"Who's this?" she asked, her arm around him and her hip jutted out.
"Just leaving" I smiled, walking away.
"Hey!" Jake called. "I never got your name! Or your house number!" I decided to stick my middle finger up.
"One, got it!" he joked. I smiled and turned around, walking backwards. "12" I called, then ran down the street.
