Wind up the key,
The musical heart,
The tune starts.
It has a power,
Memories of old,
A fool's vows were told.
An inscription that states:
'Your wedding day',
With bells and ribbons, frayed.
Many years old,
My Mother's jewellery box,
No locks.
I open it up,
The memories here,
Now all dead, I fear.
A love that was wrong,
Right from the start,
He broke her heart.
Long since he has passed,
Leaving her alone,
In that old people's home.
A man with no love to give,
A man lost from life,
A man
without
His wife.
