Violet Sparks (ch. 3)

The bell finally rang and there was a rush to the door to get to first period. Sadly L and I had different classes 1st and 7th period, so we had to part ways for a short while. I had... Science. Same subject I had first last year. I silently wondered who would be in my class as I walked down the stairs to the basement.
"Room 36......" someone thought aloud behind me. I looked down to see that my science class was in Room 36. I turned back to see who had said that and saw Max staring down at his schedule, mumbling to himself. Cool, I thought, Max is in Science with me. I wonder what other classes of mine he's in.

I turned into Room 36 and saw some people standing to the side of the room. Our teacher, Mrs. Sindy, motioned for us to stand over there, too. Once the late bell rang and everyone was in the room, our teacher spoke to the class and told us she was assigning seats. She called out names as she pointed to different desks arranged in pairs of two. I didn't really pay attention to who was where until I heard my name called. I sat down and put my supplies into the desk. I got out a pencil and turned to see who I was sitting next to. It was Max. I was exploding with happiness inside, but I tried to stay calm.
"Hey." I said casually with a little wave and a smile.
"Hey." he said back.
"So... how was your summer?" I asked. Mrs. Sindy was still calling out names, so we had a little time to talk.
"Pretty good. Went to Florida for a week." he replied.
"Cool. I didn't really go anywhere, but I did a lot of things here in town. I guess I did go to Michigan for a weekend, though." And that pretty much ended our little conversation. A few minutes of awkward silence later, Mrs. Sindy began class.
