"Soar my bird!
Fly and be free!
Forget about cages
And people and me!"
But the bird didn't forget,
And when he thought about it,
Ten years later,
He went for a visit.
The young girl was gone,
An old one was there,
With a wrinkled, sad face,
And grey thinning hair.
"What happened?" asked the bird,
"What happened to you?"
"When you left" said the lady,
"I didn't know what to do."
"I sat here, and sat here,
And now I am old.
Cobwebs grow round me,
I won't live long, I've been told"
The bird begged "don't leave!"
And began to weep,
As the lady fell into,
An everlasting sleep.
The bird flew many miles,
Until he found,
The daughter of that lady,
In her own home,
Safe and sound.
She was nineteen, now ninety,
And she's very old and grey,
And the bird, he will live with her,
Until her dying day.
