Loose Change

Today I walked past another homeless man.
Or perhaps it was the same homeless man as I see everywhere. I don't think I would know, I don't pay attention.

This man asked for money from me, change. Change I had. Change I lied about. Change I thought I shouldn't give him, in case he spends it on the wrong thing.
After lying, and walking past, avoiding eye contact as much as possible, he muttered "No worries..." And then paused. Before saying...

"God bless you."...
God bless me? GOD bless ME?
God bless YOU. I thought to myself. Not that I turned and told him that.
I walked on. I walked on to buy the air bed I don't need, I walked on to buy a box of Cadbury's cream eggs that I fancied, just because.
And that man, sitting on a piece of cardboard, with dirt on his face and holes in his clothes, asked God to bless me...

Crap.

I'm the boy you walked right past, I'm sitting on the street. Staring dully, eyes cast downwards, Towards my mucky feet. Had no food, and had no drink- It's not like you would care.

Close To Paradise

I live in a place that's close to paradise. We get all the beauty, but we still have the vice. Many who visit, feel the need to remain. They love the sleaze but for the beauty they'll not abstain.
