Mr Magpie

Hello Mr Magpie,
Sitting pretty up there,
There's people sad because of you,
But you seem not to care.

One for sorrow,
Starts the rhyme,
But I'm not sure I believe,
That seeing you,
Magpie,
Will bring sorrow to me.

Two for joy,
Comes next they say,
But I've seen two before,
Of you my Magpie friend,
And still I've been forlorn.

Three for a girl, sir,
This I know,
To be untrue for sure,
As three I counted once,
Thence a boy came to the door.

Four for a boy, Magpie,
Is just as false as three,
As four landing in my yard,
Makes girls shake at the knees.

Five for silver, Mister,
Well, now white lies turn black,
As never have I known five Magpies,
Turn silver right on track.

Six for gold, my black and white friend,
You can't claim to be real,
As even gold from sunshine,
You can't make reveal.

Seven for secrets, Mr magpie,
Now this one I feel is right,
As the biggest secret of them all,
Is we know your rhyme is trite.

One thing I want to know though, bird,
Is when you're flying high,
When you see another Magpie,
Is it you who then does cry?
