My V-Day!

Lovers’ Day!
What to say?
It was a special day today.

School was fine,
I didn't whine,
Though I had no valentine.

I didn't care,
Honest, I swear,
All my sweetest friends were there.

They gave me treats,
Too many sweets,
Nothing else quite competes.

Lunchtime came,
Was pretty lame,
The shift I had was not the same.

I sat alone,
A different tone,
The voice I heard, I've always known.

Brian Will,
It shocks me still,
He grew up with a poet’s skill.

He’s amazing,
No exaggerating,
This guy is quite intimidating.

He hoped to see me
Tomorrow evening
At tomorrow’s "Coffee House" poetry reading.

I said no
To if I might go,
He said “wrong answer”, (you’d better show).

I said okay,
He walked away
And hoped I had a good rest of the day.

Off the bus,
To home I rushed,
To sit around and do nothing much.

Quarter til four,
Still nothing more,
Til someone came knocking on the door.

Sly and slick,
I knew quite quick,
It was none other than my best friend Nick.

Went out of his way,
Drove to say “Hey”
In a St. Patty’s shirt on Valentine’s day.

What a friend of mine,
Best guy of all time,
He gave me a flower: “your valentine”.
