Chapter One
Alayah was a littlle girl who has a rough childhood. Her parents got divorced when she was three, she lives with her mom. Her mom doesn't give her the time of day. She is only seven, and she has to support herself. Her mom only feeds her, gives her new clothes, and money when she's getting inspected. Her dad died one day after the divorce, which made Alayah's mother furious because no alimony at all. She took it out on Alayah by beating her. That date of that event was July 13th, 2001; her birthday, her father's death day. Except Alayah remembers it as the worst day ever. Then exactly a month after, August 13th was Alayah's mothers birthday. Alayah stayed in her bedroom crying. Wishing her father was there with her. Wishing that her father took custody instead of her mother, that maybe her mother would've died instead.
It's so much for a three year old to take in. Around 2 'o clock was Ahreyna's , Alayah's mother birthday party. Everybody was wondering where Alayah was. So her Aunt Clarise went to her room and found bruises all over her. Then her Aunt asked what happened, Alayah was scared to speak; but softly with a saddened voice the little girl spoke and said "Mommy… she keeps… she keeps hurting me Auntie Clarie!!!" With that Ahreyna was walking up the stairs and heard the conversation. Beat Alayah because of what she said and Clarise. Alayah's Grandpa, Her father's dad saw what happened and called the cops. That day Ahreyna got arrested, but with Clarise's heart problems died. Alayah couldn't believe all the things going on. She's only three! After Ahreyna got arrested, after Clarise died, her Grandparents took her in, the one of her father's side of course; for Ahreyna's family is all dead… except for her sister Bay. That night Alayah was taken to her Grandmama Janie and Grandpapa Lamuel's house immediately. A week passed by and she found out many things about her mother, that she smoked pot, had an affair with a minor and of course abused her. For that she was sentenced for 12 years. Months passed by, then came Christmas. Alayah was still scared. Santa Clause scared her.
All the stories her mama told her when she was little, when her dad wasn't home. Ahreyna said to her "Santa is nothing but a big fat man sneaking into their house, stealing our cookies and milk. That is if we had cookies and milk. Leaving dangerous… scary toys." Ahreyna just had to make her daughter's life miserable. It was Christmas Alayah in her room scared, hiding under her blanket, holding a unicorn figurine her dad gave her for her third birthday. Rubbing her fingers against all the glued sides from where her mother broke it. That night was a Christmas party at the house… where her grandparents died of heart attack and shock.
That night she moved in with her Aunt Maria. Years passed. Alayah turned nine and a week after her Aunt Maria died. Then she moved in with her Aunt Bay and Uncle Jason. The last of her family that she had left… that she knows of at least. Alayah was scared at first to live with her mother's sister. But it was actually alright.
Her aunt and uncle treated her right, like how she should be treated. Everybody else had to, but considering she was living with her MOTHERS sister, she relaxed for once, she was stable… she had hope. But she only had real hope in that little glass unicorn figurine her father gave her when she was little. Yet even though her mother broke it, it was still glued back together enough to still have her fathers love with her. It reminded her of happier times. Her unicorn figurine was so close to her heart. She only loved Unicorns, Music, Dance, and her limited number of friends
