Today I saw the most wonderful family. We were at a skatepark watching two little kids skate circles around the larger ones. They both wore knee and elbow pads as well as a helmet, and in all their gear they made the cutest sight.
The smaller one - face painted from a nearby fair and barely able to walk and speak, let alone SKATE - would wait patiently at the top of a bowl, glancing around joyfully, and then when his turn came he would drop into the steep bowl, to the amazement and humour of the older capped teenage boys.
His brother meanwhile -slightly more developed but still tiny - would whiz up and down the ramps with a grin of pure enjoyment on his face.
He would skate up ramps than launch himself into a jump and hope he'd land it. Then if he didn't, he would hook his board under his little arm and prepare to try again.
The two brothers were accompanied by their at ease mother, father and even younger sister. The father - a caring but at ease man who obviously was a skilled skater- would pull the youngest kid up by his board if ever he fell into the bowl and skate around sometimes, but mostly watch the kids. Their mother was a stylish young women who walked around cheering on the boys, closely followed be an even smaller, and ever cuter little girl, who sucked on a strawberry whilst she watched her brothers in delight.
I was in awe of this quite peculiar, loving, talented and VERY cute family, and I suspect the rest of the skatepark was too.
My mother later asked boys' mother how old they were and she said the youngest was 5 and the older one 6. She also said they were very dedicated, and always on their boards.
Though their age and size were the smallest in the park, their skills exceeded many of the other skaters.
What a wonderful family. :)
