The winter nights are here
And the moon is cold and grey.
It smiles down mirthlessly
As night turns into day.
The snowflakes race around,
The dance and play and skip.
The days are old and short,
The ice coating at its tips.
Icicles like daggers.
They pierce the frozen wind.
And then the ice sets in.
The nights are full of sin.
Warmth in light is gone.
Cold and dark is here.
Nights stretch on forever,
The nightmares creeping near.
I escape now from the day
Into apathetic night.
The demons chase us around,
Sharp claws and teeth that bite.
The stars above glare down,
They freeze the tender ground.
No more flowers seen,
Or green, the dead, is found.
