Current day.
Seohyun stared at nothingness through the window. The sky still illuminated light through the window despite the clods blocking the sun and an obvious rain was about to start.
She wasn't going to see him today again. And maybe not ever. Not since everything he felt for him grew more complicated.
"Not going to see him today?" Yoona interrupted, chiding in her thoughts as she sat in the opposite direction.
Seohyun just shook her head refusing to look at her sister since she was always that one person who read her first before she could even hide her emotions.
"Are you sure? How about your classes?"
"I can take them at night." She answered shortly.
"But it rains a lot these days. Are you going to be okay with that?"
Seohyun nodded. "I like rainy days."
"I know you do but.." Yoona pauses for a moment, "Are really going to keep doing this, Seohyun-ah?"
Seohyun finally turned to her sister. "I'm sorry, unnie. I just... don't know what to do or what to think right now. He doesn't know who I am..." she trails off.
"Tell me, do you want him to know? If you do then tell him. It's been two years, Seohyun-ah. Both of you have to let go. You can't be stuck to what happened years ago."
Seohyun sighed looking away. "I know but... what if he can't forgive me?"
"Is that what this is all about? The man not forgiving you? Or something else, Seohyun-ah?"
Seohyun didn't answer. She didn't have to. Yoona already knew. "I'm sorry, Seohyun-ah..." Yoona reach for her, "I didn't mean to..."
"It's okay, unnie. You're right." And after that, they fell silent for a few more moments and Yoona stood on her feet ready to leave but stopped midway.
She turned to Seohyun. "There's always reasons why things happen, Seohyun-ah. And that includes both of you. I don't have to know him personally to know what kind of person he is. But if he's a reasonable man, then he would understand. None of this is what we dreamed of happening but things happen with or without our control. And all we are capable of doing is to understand that there are reasons in everything and be contented on what we have. Remember that."
Seohyun nodded in understanding returning the warm smile her sister had given her. She watched her sister disappear in the door but not before leaving the umbrella behind.
There was no telling where everything started. Was it when she first saw him cry? Was it when she first dreamed about him? The moment she woke up in the hospital? the moment she promised herself to keep him safe? Or has it been there all along only she's been too scared on losing him? Either way she had come to the point where there was no going back.
She is in love with Jung Yonghwa, unconditionally.
Now as she stood in front of him under the rain, her heart placed on her sleeves, she started "Thank you... I've always wondered what it feels like to walk with you under the rain..." she continued, "I know you don't remember me but... I remember you. You saved me once just like how I saved you that night, only mine wasn't enough to repay you. You don't owe me anything."
"I saved you? How?" She knew she confused him.
Finally, she muttered the words that will forever change their lives, "You gave me her heart even though you didn't want to...but you did it because you loved her. And I'm sorry for taking it..." I'm sorry for breaking your heart. She turned around, took a step back and on to to the rain as tears streamed down her cheeks endlessly without having any will to wipe them.
He didn't say anything and she knew better than to expect him to. She took one step at a time feeling something inside her shatter in the process. The rain poured upon her but it no longer mattered.
With the last thing she needed to say to him, she stopped and said, "I'm sorry... I thought once I meet the person who gave me a second chance, it will make me feel better and live on but... when I met you, I felt like I took something that wasn't for me and no matter how much I wanted to go back in time and give it back... I know it will never happen. I didn't expect that I would be like this... I'm sorry."
With that she left with burden taken away and a broken heart.
