Slumped in her seat, Lauren scowled at the teacher from the front of the class. Ms Morgan whistled out of tune cheerily; until Lauren thought she was going insane. She rested her head in her hands, and thought back last period.
It was Science before, and as Lauren loped into the classroom, she spotted her friends waving from the back. She smiled and made her way towards them, sitting next to her best friend, Scarlett. "Hey Scar," I turned to look at her in my seat, and she grinned widely back at me. "Recovered from your bruises yet?" It had been Scarlett that had jabbed her in the ribs in first period. She smirked and Lauren poked her with a pencil. Scarlett yelped loudly, and received a disdainful stare from the Professor. "Have you?" Lauren laughed and leant back in her seat. The science Professor strolled into the class and said loudly, "Okay, that's enough guys. Get your coursework out and I'll go through the register. Adam?" "Yes, I've got it sir," a small boy at the front of the class muttered. "Alex?" The dark haired boy from earlier smiled slightly and said, "Yes sir." Lauren swallowed slowly as he turned to face his friend again and they continued to make paper airplanes. "Lauren?" She sighed, and put my head in my hands. "Lauren, hello? Have you got your coursework?" Snapping out of her daydream, she stuttered, "Erm, yes?" "Good. Scar, you got yours?" She waved her project in the air, stifling a snigger. "What's up with you today? Falling asleep in Maths, daydreaming in Science?" "Isn't that normal?" She muttered to Scar. "Sure, but there's something different about you, I know it." She gave Lauren her 'intimidating' look and turned the front again. Sighing, Lauren did the same.
At lunch, Lauren tried to force her thoughts away from Alex. They sat in a unorganised circle, Alex and his mate the furthest from Scar and Lauren. "Okay, truth or dare, Lars?" Lars Evans was a broad-shouldered, tall boy with a wide grin. He smiled, his sparkling blue eyes crinkling, "Dare." Grinning mischievously, the group clustered into a tight circle to discuss Lar's fate. Giggling, they chorused, "Ask Chloe out." Lar's eyes widened. Chloe was a bitchy, snide girl with a pompous personality to match. "Do I have to," he whined, but the girls cut him short. "Off you go then," Lauren winked and pointed to Chloe, who was conveniently standing at the centre of her companions, speaking very loudly. Smiling slightly, he loped off. When he was close, he yelled into the group, "HEY CHLO', DO ME A FAVOUR AND GIVE ME A PECK ON THE CHEEK, WILL YA?" Flushing furiously, Chloe fought fiercely to escape the wary hands of her allies. As Lars lolloped back to the girls, they all collapsed in laughter. "T-that, was brilliant!" Scar gasped, gulping air as she surfaced from a rather violent laughing fit, "But you didn't really ask her out, did you?" She grinned evilly and whispered, "We'll get you, Evans." He faked terror and spun the bottle with a laugh. "Charlie!" A fair-haired girl looked shyly up at Lars, and murmured, "Truth." Lars furrowed his brow, apparently concentrating hard. "Who do you have a crush on?" His eyes twinkled as Charlotte fumbled for an answer. "Well, I-" "Oh, give it up, it's obvious she likes Lars." The voice came from opposite Lauren, and belonged to a red-headed girl, Katie. Scar's jaw dropped and her eyes widened as she eyed the pair. "Lars... And Char... Genius!" Everyone laughed, and Katie nudged Scarlett with a grin. "Spin the bottle again, Loverboy," she directed at Lars. This time it landed on Lauren. "Truth or dare?" Her friends said promptly. "Erm, dare." Lauren always chose dare, it funnily seemed the safest option. "Kiss Lance!" The crowd cooed and hooted appreciatively as Lauren's mouth gaped. "W-wha? But I've known Lance since I was a kid!" Lance was Lar's brother, and bore the same bright blue eyes and sandy, short fringed hair Lars had. It was true, Lars, his family and Lauren used to go on holidays to Zimbabwe together. She remembered playing and running along the beach together, giggling as children. For some reason, Lauren now wished Alex had been there instead. Maybe then it would be him she'd have to kiss.
