Claire was ready for school. The summer was too boring and even though she definitely wasn't looking forward to homework or teachers, she couldn't wait to come back.
"Claire!!" said a voice behind her. She turned around and stared at an exceptionally elated face.
"Hey, Mi." she replied with a wry smile.
"Claire!" Mia crooned, clinging onto her friend's arm. "Why didn't you talk to me over the summer? Why didn't we hang out??"
But Claire only smiled. "Haha, I was busy?"
"Psh, you lie!!" Then Mia dropped her clingy demeanor. "Guess what? I heard there's a new guy!"
"What? How do you already know that? The morning bell hasn't even rang yet."
"I know enough, I know enough." she laughed as the two headed towards their first class. "Anyways, his name is Jaden, and he's from... somewhere overseas!"
"Really now..." Claire responded, sitting at her desk.
"And, I heard he's super cute!!" Mia leaned over Claire's desk, nudging her.
"Mia, it's only the first day back. And don't you already have a boyfriend?"
"Huh? Levi?" Claire nodded. "No way! Would you stop calling him my boyfriend?!"
"But I though you--"
"Not even close!" Mia shuddered reflexively. "Just... no. No."
"Okay, sorry." Claire said, pulling her brown hair into a ponytail. Remember how she thought she wanted to go back to school? Well, she takes it all back.
