I slide on my shoes
And pull up my hair.
I pull on my dress
Acting like I don't care.
I walk out onto the stage
And put my head down
I raise my arms to let the fabric fall in wings
I stand very still. I don't make a sound.
The choir and band
Erupt into symphonies
The curtains pull back
The breeze swaying fake pansies.
I begin my dance
Moving gracefully like a bird
When my dance partner joins me
His footsteps I never heard.
Our moves begin to sync
As we dance in time with the beat
I glance at him and he grins
My cheeks fill with heat.
The music fades away
As we stop our fluid dance
Ending in each others arms
Losing myself in his brown eyes-
Like I am in a trance.
