She sleepily opened her eyes to see him lying next to her, his eyes locked onto her. He was beautiful. His deep, brown eyes lit up as he saw she was awake, and a smile spread across his tired face. His curly hair fell into those big, beautiful eyes and he made no effort to sweep it out of the way. She returned his smile, unable to even blink, just in case she missed a second of her time with him. She was in awe of him. He was flawless, and she couldn't take her eyes off of him.
He slowly reached his hand out to touch her face, before tucking a long strand of her dark hair behind her ear. She instantly became hot from his touch, and her cheeks flushed a bright shade of pink. She loved it when he was here with her. It was the only time she felt safe. He completed her and brought stability to her life. She knew, as soon as he left, that her life would be turned upside down, and that she would be a mess, all over again. But she tried to shake those thoughts from her mind, so that she could enjoy having him around now, when she was stable and calm.
When her eyes met his once again, his smile had disappeared and his brow had furrowed, causing his face to contort with confusion. He stroked her face and traces her bottom lip with his thumb. He knew she was scared about him leaving her. He knew what a mess she was without him. He wished he could stay with her, like this, forever. But he couldn't. They both knew that.
She kissed his thumb and she knew he felt bad about leaving her. But it wasn't his fault.
He wrapped his arms around her, holding her as tight and as close to him as he possibly could, making her feel safe. She buried her face into his chest, listening to the loud thud of his heartbeat and feeling the warmth radiating from his body. He kissed the top of her head, before resting his forehead against hers.
"I'll miss you." he whispered. He spoke softly, making sure she understood that he really would miss her, so much. She let out a soft whimper, her body starting to shake as her years formed a damp patch on his grey t-shirt. She pulled herself closer to him, squeezing him tighter, as if he would disappear of she let him go.
He ran his fingers through her hair while wrapping himself around her.
And so they lay, not saying a word, savouring the few precious moments that they had left together.
